I collect plant material from the fields around my Granville, Ohio home.
I have been doing this for more than 30 years – I started out by making my wedding invitations – each unique. After the wedding I was surprised to see that my friends had framed the designs I made for them. I realized that I had succeeded in getting them to see and appreciate plant structure. I always take the plants apart to see how they are “assembled.” I often find parts that are really interesting – for example the calyx (collar that holds the plant together) on a ragweed plant has a great gradation from ivory to dark green. Almost like it is lit from inside.
